Going through a slightly rough patch, but that too will pass. However, there's always time for music.

Not doing the music meme that is going around because without broadband, I can't download much music. Unless I pop over to campus, which is where I am now, and abuse the facilities. Anyway. So what I have done recently is to head off to the nearby Cash Convertor and rummage through their collection to see what I can find. Because it's fun and exciting like that.

It's sort of digging around people's playlists, except tangible, more grimy and you'll find yourself making WTF expressions every five minutes or so at the sheer amount of BIZZARE! people listen to. You might also want to practise inhaling as little air as possible while in Cash Convertor shops though as they somehow all smell like contruction workers squeeze into the tiny 3x3 metre music sections regularly. To put it succinctly, stale sweat and overpowering musk.

Most stuff are rubbish (and by that, I mean cheesy techno stuff with pounding beats the sale assistants are so fond of playing on repeat, but then again, that's just me). Still, you might just make the most awesome finds. Within 20 minutes, I got myself Vienna boy choirs singing pop <3, a strange Japanese mister's album and a soundtrack consisting OMG!REALINDIE!!! tracks from OMG!REALINDIE!!! films.

... actually, it's not only the rummaging that is fun, but also the gamble you take when you purchase what you hope is good shitz. It's three dollars per album. Cheaper than TOTO or 4D and more fun too. Ah.

This is where I tell you I do harbour great love for choir music. Even if sopranos in large numbers scare me. Even if I am still scarred from my primary school days where the nuns somehow got the idea that all girls are either a soprano or alto. But that's another story for another time.

But choirs are really lovely and I have a soft spot for boys' choir since you get all the pure high notes without the slight shrill girls sometimes have. I couldn't believe my eyes when I came across the album. How could anyone let go off such an album?! It's the Vienna Boys' Choir singing trashy pop! (Well. Joe from St. Louis might though, judging from his comments.) The disc is quite badly scratched, but plays fine and the little notes and blurbs in the CD booklet more than make up for it.

The booklet informs the reader that the choir's artistic director and album producer, at a loss for choices of tracks that should be covered, turned to the boys for suggestions. Needless to say, a lot of songs had to be left off the final list. (I'm as curious as you are as to what some of the suggestions might have been. While the booklet remains silent on this topic, it does suggest that a lot of little boys have been listening to things they shouldn't.) What I want to know is a decade down the road, will the organisation wince whenever this album is mentioned. And if the boy who suggested Back Street Boys' "Get Down" knows how much damage he has inflicted on the world.

Vienna Boys' Choir - Get Down (Brucknerchor; Back Street Boys)
Vienna Boys' Choir - All You Need Is Love (Mozartchor; The Beatles)
Vienna Boys' Choir - Supreme (Schubertchor; Robbie Williams)

The instrumental arrangements leave a lot to be desired, but the voices are beautiful. Only three of the four choirs were involved in this album and I thought it should only be fair that there should be one track from each choir. I rather like The Beatles' cover but it was Schubertchor's cover that made me want to cry. In a good way. If you ever want to listen to a choir boy rap, that cover will be what you would want to download. In fact, if you download just one track, Schubertchor's cover should be it.

And because I can, here are the Vienna Boys' Choir and Stereophonic's covers of Prince's "Nothing Compares To You", where the latter is pure sex.

Only because I wub you.

Stereophonics - Nothing Compares To You (Acoustic)

[livejournal.com profile] esesiined, I presume our movie date is still on? Boy driving with tofu, remember? Will have completed my assignment with BC and will be off to another assignement which allows me a flexible schedule even on weekdays. Drop me a note or something? (Or alternatively, I could insist Dee bring me along for his cheese cake session and I could meet you at your workplace?)

No problem! My hp number is still the same, and let me know when - where will you be? I will generally be working in the Buona Vista MRT area 9 - 5. I'd camp out with you, except I'll prob be working and can't get out until late. (T_T) O what to do, what to do.

Hey! I'll be at Sunset Bay, which is about 20 minutes bus ride from Buona Vista MRT station. For about the next 2 weeks anyway. Anyway, no worries about the Gaiman Boy thing. Will be there anyway, so erm, you could just sidle in? XD; (What really matters is will he do a reading at the Borders signing? I can't decide which date to attend or to simply attend both. BC is damnably mum about the whole affair.)

Stanislaw Lem's Solaris is a horror to read, but is quite a brilliant mindfuck which makes much sense.]

Right. Plans = Good.
