Heard of British Whale?
No?
Neither did I. Until I was trying to cook something new with leftover roast chicken and hoping the vegetable soup doesn't overboil while the radio played on today. Bright sunny days are Radio Days, but it's seldom I tune in to the local station. Was surprised to hear that 98.7FM now has 2 music producers on a for an hour where they would accept any challenge the audience throw at them. Seriously, any challenge. Which is how I got to hear an electroclash track complete with butchered french lyrics ("The fish is wearing a hat. Are you dead yet, my friend? " XD).
The shows, minus commercials but with Producers' Commentary, are available for download. Be wary of Very Large Files, Random Nonsense and Horrible Singlish though. XD;;; (If you want to skip all the crap and listen to the end result, it's usually located at near the end, around the 20th minute?)
... and now you look at me, puzzled, and ask "But what have 2 very gay-sounding music producers have anything to do with a whale from Britain?"
Nothing.
British Whale is actually Justin Hawkins from The Darkness... and just 100% Justin Hawkins from The Darkness. British Whale (and not Justin Hawkins from The Darkness) somehow managed to cover "This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us" in a very awesome way that somehow brings to mind Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". Not because the cover sounds like "Bohemian Rhapsody", but because the cover has the whole insane playful energy that "Bohemian Rhapsody" has. And it breaks brains.
Of course it doens't hurt that Justin Hawkins sounds a lot like Freddie Mercury.
(I would upload the track except it's proving damn near impossible to find. However, you can pop off to the Official Site and watch Mr. Hawkins throw darts while the track plays in the background.)
