Don't Get Lost In Heaven
Jun. 22nd, 2005 11:00 pmThere was much hesitation regarding the purchase of Gorillaz's latest album. Sure, they've got rather good reviews this time round and that dude from FluxBlog uploaded "Every Planet We Reach Is Dead" while muttering some...stuff (well, while he didn't say anything bad about the album, I don't recall him saying it rocked his world either). Didn't like that particular track and after The Bravery, I take reviews with a pinch of salt. (In short, The Bravery = (Marilyn Manson + Boy George + Joy Division)(Black Nail Polish)? HA.)
Anyway. Bought the Gorillaz album today since the snippet of "Feel Good Inc." is like an earworm that behaves more like a roach.
It is good. The whole album is actually pretty nifty even if I still don't like the track the FluxBlog Dude uploaded. Heavy on bass, "Demon Days" sounds a lot like Brit Pop overdosing on the Synthesizer but edgier and with Rap... I don't even know if that description makes much sense, but I never claimed to excel in the description or summarising department. A lot of static noises in the background in most of the tracks though, like the sort of cackling you get from old records or a blank TV the colour of the sky in the background.
I must say I am surprised. I didn't really like their previous albums, I'm not exactly fond of Danger Mouse (who co-produced this album) and a band that exits only in animation seems... a little strange. You think an anime fan who has friends wanting to marry 2D characters should think otherwise, but here we are anyway. Offnote, Noodle actually seems to have grown up! You don't even have to squint to realise she is wearing blusher and eyeshadow in the pictures. And pink nail polish!!!!!
... I'll get over it. But for now, it's still bizzare like whoa.
Music files would be uploaded on Friday. Hopefully?
.
Am curious about the Bebel Gilberto remixes album I saw the other day. Am also tempted to pick up crochet. Gah.
