This meme almost didn't make it. But I'll be damned if I was not going to post it after ransacking my music collection. (Actually, both softcopy and hardcopy collections. @__@) So here goes.
The Kills - U.R.A. Fever: You know how some songs are just meant to be remixed? This is one of those. I went hunting and here is my l00t: Carlini Remix, IMA Fever Nite Cells Remix, JazZstePpa Dubstep Remix, Remdog Remix and Database rocker remix.
Goldfrapp - U.K Girls (Physical): No, I have not heard Goldfrapp's supposedly "folk" new sound, but if Alison can remove all traces of aerobics from Olivia Newton-John's "Physical"...
Mechanical Bride - Umbrella (Rihanna cover): Before anyone gives me flak for this, yes I know "Umbrella" is an easy way out. But I really do love this cover and have been meaning to upload this. The band describes themselves as "haunting folk" on MySpace and they are not lying. They manage to sound chilling and eerily beautiful even when going "Ella ella ay ay ay". How awesome is that?
Lo-Fi-FNK - Unighted: I have no idea what they are singing most of the time and I think there's yelping as lyrics in the song somewhere. But everything is ok when you are Swedish, have neat beats and a wry sense of humour.
BUCK-TICK - Utsusemi: Confession. I was surprised when I found this track in my HD. I've stopped downloading J-music for a long time and to be honest, these guys were never high on my list. That said, despite Sakurai's wont for quavering vocals, I do like this track. (Sakurai's odd warbling is not fist-clenching irritating, but it is bothersome enough that it's all I can focus at times.) FWIW, Google says the track is used in the xxxHolic anime, it makes references to The Tale of Genji and the lyrics are a bitch to translate.
